What does BariMelts® D3 do for the body?
According to The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) guidelines, vitamin D deficiency after weight-loss surgery can occur in up to 100% of patients. Vitamin D3 is needed to maintain strong healthy bones and does so by helping the body absorb calcium (a key building block in our bones). Vitamin D3 is also essential for the health of our muscles and nerves and also aids in cell growth and function. The body also uses vitamin D3 together with the immune system to fight off infection.
Why is BariMelts® D3 better than other brands?
The BariMelts® delivery system is great for patients who have undergone bariatric surgery as it dissolves in the mouth and makes the vitamins available for absorption before they reach the stomach. Since the vitamins dissolve in the mouth, the tablet does not take up space in the stomach and allows you to eat a true meal. Some patients post-surgery may have difficulty swallowing and therefore this dosage form would help with that as well. D3 increases vitamin D levels in the body significantly while ergocalciferol only moderately increases levels. D3 is a naturally derived supplement while D2 is a synthetically derived supplement.
