Chelidonium majus, commonly known as greater celandine or tetterwort,(although tetterwort also refers to Sanguinaria canadensis), nipplewort, or swallowwort, is a herbaceous perennial plant, the only species in the genus Chelidonium. It is native to Europe and western Asia and introduced widely in North America. While the greater celandine belongs to the poppy family, the lesser celandine belongs to the buttercup family. Description Greater celandine is a perennial herb with an erect habit, and reaches 30 to 120 cm high. The leaves are pinnate with lobed and wavy-edged margins, up to 30 cm long. When injured, the plant exudes a yellow to orange latex. The flowers consist of four yellow petals, each about 1 cm long, with two sepals. A double-flowered variety occurs naturally. The flowers appear from late spring to summer in umbelliform cymes of about 4 flowers. The seeds are small and black, borne in a long, cylindrical capsule. Each has an elaiosome, which attracts ants to disperse the seeds (myrmecochory). It is considered an aggressive invasive plant in natural areas. Control is obtained mainly via pulling or spraying the plant before seed dispersal. Uses 1 teaspoon of herbs to put in an enamel bowl, pour 200 ml of hot boiling water, cover and insist on a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, strain, wring out the residue in the strained infusion. Volume infusion bring boiled water to 200 ml. Take in the form of heat ¼ cup 2 times a day 15 min before meal. The course of treatment - 2-3 weeks. 1 filter bag placed in a glass or enamel bowl, pour 200 ml of boiling water, close and infuse for 15-20 minutes. Take tincture in the form of heat ¼ cup 2 times a day 15 min before meal. The course of treatment - 2-3 weeks. In diseases of the skin combine the internal use of infusion with outside in the form of lotions.
